Consuming the right nutrients is important for proper tooth development. Failing to do so can result in setbacks such as dental and periodontal diseases. Therefore, understanding how diet and eating habits affect the teeth is important in improving the oral and general health. To promote strong teeth, take early precautions such as eating proper nutritious foods, using fluorides, and brushing the teeth. With no time wasted, we came up with a small list of foods that are beneficial to us and they include:
Fruits: Firm and crunchy fruits such as apples and pears remineralize the enamel as well as improve the integrity of the tooth structure. These fruits are sweet to the tooth, but they are high in fiber and water. In the process of eating such fruits, the mouth produces saliva. The saliva washes away bacteria and food particles from the teeth, and in addition, the fiber stimulates the gums.

Vegetables: Leafy greens are full of vitamins and minerals and are low in calories. They are rich in calcium, which builds the teeth enamel, and folic acid, which promotes good health, for example, it treats gum disease in pregnant women. These properties of leafy greens promote oral health and strong teeth.
Yogurt: Yogurt is a good source of calcium and protein which are good for the teeth. It also contains beneficial bacteria (probiotics) that outplay the bad bacteria in the mouth that cause a cavity.
Nuts, chicken and other meats: Foods rich in protein such as nuts, chicken, meat, fish, milk, and eggs contain calcium and phosphorus. Such minerals promote dental health for the reason that they protect and rebuild the enamel.
Celery and Cheese: Eating cheese raises the pH in the mouth, hence, lowering the risk of tooth decay. It stimulates the production of saliva in the mouth, therefore, washing away bacteria and food particles from the teeth. Celery contains fiber and water that washes away bacteria and scrap food particles from the teeth. In addition, celery is a good source of vitamin A and C that are good anti-oxidants and that promote healthy gums.
It is important to understand that food can have a direct effect on the teeth or mucosal tissue. When overconsuming foods that are high in sugar, bacteria in the mouth convert those sugars into acids that later destroy the enamel causing tooth decay. Therefore, in order for us to develop good oral health routines, remember to go for nutritious foods such as those mentioned above!
